Knowledge Support in Medicine

Knowledge-Based Systems in Health Care

AAL

Knowledge-based systems are IT systems that allow collection, unification, integration and dissemination of knowledge. They can have different forms, starting from relatively general forms, such as internet browsers supervising processes, over data warehouses with special processes and reporting tools for documentation creation and maintenance, up to diagnostic expert systems containing highly specialized knowledge.

Part of the development of knowledge-based support in health care is the development of a number of applications that can be tightly or loosely coupled. Some of them can be based on so-called multi-agent architectures.

Other projects can be focused on design of database architectures, problems of security of stored and transmitted data, design of user interfaces utilizing mobile technologies (for example smart phones with Android OS, iPad or tablet). Further topics are linked with design of process-based description of activities in health care, application of ontologies for knowledge representation.
